Loving the game, so addictive. Play with me :)

Early review

I've been playing since release day and wanted to save my review for later. I decided not to do a review, my 10/10 speaks for itself. Instead I'll give some tips to new players, judging by the reviews there is some confusion on stuff:

1. Shiny Geodude code: Use 5231. (N.B. USE THE PERIOD)
2. Sinies level almost twice as fast and have more crits
3. Save your cash for now, loads of improvements on the horizon for evolution stones so wait for the update
4. To catch Pokemon, drag the ball itself over a Pokemon with red health. It'll open if you're doing it right.
5. To retreat Pokemon quickly, drag them into an invalid space. Necesarry to beat Brock.
6. Pidgeotto is fucking awesome. :P

To a mini review: The game is simply awesome. All we need are faster updates! Love every bit of it, well done!

Got a bit to say

My first impression of the game, in this case the main menu had me impressed. I loved the song, Zabutom did a really good job. To the game: I loved it. It felt fresh, the unexplanable mystery felt right to be left unsolved, because that's exactly what a dream should feel like. The bee level was seriously not as bad as people make it out to be, I mean it was a cake walk compared to simple early levels in games like Meat Boy and that Crow in Hell thing. I think people can't take the tiniest bit of losing these days, something I'll fail to understand. The ending was sudden and completely random, yet leaving a taste behind making me want more. It felt like a typical nightmare scenario, again making the idea of being in a dream so much more believable. The game was short and sweet, the style was enjoyable and the scenario completley relatable to those of us with unexplainable dreams.

It just annoys me that so many people make such a big deal out of the bee section, it felt completely right to me. Hope you dream up a sequel to add some more mystery. :)

Respect

First off, I'd like to "Bekoboy1234"'s comment about the game being a rehash of Space Invaders extreme: Same style, same fever system, same form of obtaining weapons, same form of progressing and even the exact same 4 weapons. I do however feel that A LOT of trouble obviously went into this and I thoroughly enjoyed it so I'm pleased to give you an 8. (But seriously, maybe just adding "Inspired by Space Invaders Extreme" to the description would be awesome)

My second concern is the music. It was brilliant, it really was: Fitting and fast. My problem is that in certain areas of the world, streaming music is a pain because if you have a third world internet connection like mine the music buffs every few seconds, making it feel choppy. I know this isn't a problem with the game but instead with the player's system, but I just thought I'd mention that adding the music to the preloaded files would make it much more accesible for us less fortunate tools.

Again, well done nice and colourful. I only suggest adding more of your own influence into it (Different weapon functions atleast).

ZEGMAN responds:

All of your points are great.
Thank you :)

All my approvals to you

Humor is a wonderful thing: It soothes the understanding and annoys and confuses the ignorant. The "game" is obviously created for exactly this and looking at the reviews, it's done a perfect job: Mocking the RPG generaton and managing to do so with over-the-top low budget-esque action. Newgrounds is packed with functioning RPGs and Super PSTW Action RPG does a marvelous job at being the intentionally obnoxious cousin of the family we all come to to get rid of the seriousness created thereby. Well done!

Also I just thought I'd mention how unbelievably pathetic all the obvious attempts are at creating a review as the one Axman13 did are: An example of this is user Jaden964... We know you want attention kiddo, but the your attention-whoring is bringing down the score. Go elsewhere.

Secret Medals

First off, the art work and story was really amazing. You should seriously make some comics and offer them to DC or a similiar company. Now to what I disliked: Most of the things you had to click didn't make sense. By this I mean, a good point-and-click adventure makes use of the players logical instincts and follows a incinuated path to beating it. While that wasn't too bad, the sound effects annoyed me to no end. The dark atmosphere, which is awesome, is ruined by "childish" boinks and other sounds. It started to feel too similiar to cartoons instead of a mature thriller. I still thoroughly enjoyed the game though, so mega kudos for that.

As for the secret medals: If you want to figure them out yourselves, DON'T read this:

The first is in the Superstar's apartment. Before entering, simply click on the milk bottle on the table in the kitchen.
The second is the cup on the table in the apartment. Simply click it. Easiest 200 points you'll ever get.

Lacking

I believe that anyone who goes to the trouble of making a game at all, could do just a bit more trouble by making it good. The game lacked in every single aspect, especially gameplay. It was extremely repetitive, as was the music...To be honest, it felt like a half-assed clone of Canabalt. I do however congratulate you on making the front page. Whether my opinion is negative or not, doesn't change the face that you did well enough to win someone over.

Also, something that's really been bothering me related to comments (on most of the submissions on NG), the right term is addictive, not addicting.

Righteous

I realize that three is a very dull score, but compared to everything else up on newgrounds, your submission falls under the "sub-par" category. It's a copied formula, done horribly. I'd go as far as to say this is closer to a palette-swop than a clone of Civ., which simply makes your game a rip-off to say the least. The addition of bikes was one of the only 'pros', but it's not close enough to make up for the many cons. Lastly, and I feel like a total douche for saying this, but your "author comments" section had some of the worst typos I've ever had the pain of having to read. Fix that, and I might contemplate upgrading my score to a 4, but it's highly doubtable. I think a 2/5 (nothing to new or interesting) is perfect for this. Also, kudos for going through the trouble of making this, next time just try to be original...and use spellcheck.

Job very well done

Something I've thought of making for ages, but never had the know hoe. You did a brilliant job. I can only suggest a genre search option. That would make it much, much better.

Pros and Cons

It's been ages since my last review, but I felt the need to write one again after playing this. Before I start, I believe in accurate reviews and as I result I believe that an 8 or higher is reserved for the cream of the crop, so a 7 is very good. To the review:

Instead of writing tedious paragraphs, I'll keep to a simple pro, con and suggestion format:

PROS:
Animation: While simple, the animation was smooth and good enough for this genre of flash gaming.

Genre: Tossing games (Not the British toss, in case you were wondering) fall under my top-5 favourite genre types in flash.

Humour: I'm not into the silly type of comedy that your 'story' represented, but I thought the bear scenes after every level were hilarious. The whole ginger kid thing also never gets old.

CONS:
Upgrades: Upgrades are awesome. Infact, I'll play Barbie's Horse Castration if it has awesome upgrades. This game however lacked proper upgrades. The catapults were really well thought out, but the variety and difference in effect wasn't present.

Music: The song wasn't bad, but it didn't fit at all. Also, I despise loops.

Patchman: While I enjoyed the difference in animation, Patchman didn't bring anything else to the table.

Effortlessness: This was mentioned previously, so I won't comment.

SUGGESTIONS:

Give patchman some unique upgrades. With it, it'l make more sense to want to unlock him.

Give Patchman his own in space animation. I'm sure you didn't think of it, but I just mentioned it incase you were planning on bug fixing.

The rockets need different effects. By this I mean explosions, score effects etc.

Add some midair control.

More midlevel boosts would be nice.

Originality: Besides the story, there wasn't much originality at all. Add something never before attempted in tossing games. For example, I'd love a boss. No idea how that would work, but I'm sure you'll think of something.

All and all, 7/10, 3/5. Great attempt for a gamemaking-virgin.

I'm currently doing my first year at AFDA, a South African film school. This semester I'm doing directing and writing and next semester I'll be doing Animation and VFX, so expect some uploads from me next semester!
